Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1798 in Augusta County, Virginia. She was the daughter of William Kerr and Mary Grove. Through a marriage bond dated 2 Jan 1819, she married on 4 Jan 1819 to Moses Wallace.

On the 1850 Augusta Co., VA census, I found farmer William Wallace, 25; Samuel Wallace, 24; John Wallace, 20; ELIZABETH Wallace, 50 plus Elizabeth Steve (or similar), 30; John Steve?, 4 and Benjamin Steve?, 2, all VA born.

On the 1860 Dist. 1, Augusta Co., VA census, I found farmer John M Wallace, 32; ELISABETH Wallace, 62 and domestic Betsey Keller, 42 and her 7 children ages 5/12 to 15, all VA born.

The 4 Feb 1862 Staunton Spectator & General Advertiser reports VA: At rules held at the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court for Augusta County, the 3d day of February, 1862. John N Wallace, plaintiff against Samuel B. Wallace, Elizabeth Wallace and Hettie J Walker, defendants. John paid for debts for the defendant, Saml B Wallace for a 2/6 share of 246 acres in Augusta county. Samuel does not live in VA and is requested to appear. See notice on right (same appears on Feb 18th and 25th).

Another notice appears in the Staunton Spectator dated 27 Feb 1877 in a column of sales in the Pastures District "Elizabeth Wallace to W K Wallace, 247 1/8 a." Check the deeds in the Augusta Co. Court House and check for Wallace in the Index as well. She last appears on the 1870 Summerdean, Pastures, Augusta Co., VA census, residing with son Samuel B. Wallace, 45, Elizabeth Wallace, 30 and ELIZABETH Wallace, 73, all VA born. They lived next door to son John M. Wallace and his family.

Her burial location is undocumented, but I suspect she was also buried at the Old Lebanon Cemetery in Craigsville, Augusta County, VA. It has been in bad shape for years, and many markers were below the soil line. Kin, Diane Parker wrote: "Moses Wallacer is buried near his parents and close to many of his family members in the Old Lebanon Cemetery."

Marriage: Bond posted without a bondsman's name.
