Biography
Susannah was born in 1758, the second child of Johannes and Eva Dorothea Leman Kessler. Apparently she was in her late 20s when she married an Irishman, George Clare, a widower, in Botetourt County, VA. He seems to have been about twenty years older than she. They are known to have had two sons, Jacob and Daniel.
1790 Husband George Clear/Clare died, after which Susanna granted permission for her stepdaughters to marry her brothers: Mary Clare married Christian Kessler October 26, 1793. Margaret Clare married Benjamin Kessler November 19, 1795. Susanna's oldest stepson, Thomas Clare paid bond for Sarah (Sally) Cox, daughter of Allen Cox Sr. to marry Susanna's brother, David Kessler April 14, 1792. Sons of George Clear: Thomas, Allen, DAniel, and Francis Clare moved to Pulaski County, Kentucky, north of the Cumberland River, along with their cousins, Allen Ezekiel, Isaac, and Jacob Cox, sons of Allen Cox, Sr.[1]
