Sarah Elizabeth Kester was born 29 Sep 1858, in Hillsville, Carroll County, Virginia. She is a daughter of Jonathan Kester and Elizabeth Smith. ^{[1] [2]}

In 1860, they lived in Grayson County, Virginia. Jonathan "John", Elizabeth, Phoebe "F.J.", Martha, Richard, James, Lanstaby "Leroy", Katy "C.L.", and Sarah "E.S.". ^[1]

In Aug 1870, the family was living in Pine Creek Township, Carroll County, Virginia. Parents John and Elizabeth, children Martha, James, Lanstaby, Katy, Sarah, John, Mary, and Amanda. ^[2]

She married John Washington Shockley, 28 Nov 1877 in Hillsville, Carroll County, Virginia.

Sarah passed away 30 Jan 1938, in Carroll County, Virginia. She is buried in the Shockley Cemetery, Carroll County, Virginia. ^[3]
