Buried at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery
Martha Key never married. She did, however, have two children. It is said that her father was a very stern person and that may well be why she never revealed who the father of her children was. I have a picture of Aunt Martha and she appears to have been a very happy person in the picture --- one who loved to laugh. At the same time, it is evident by looking at her picture that life was not always easy for her. It is said that she was very active in the White Plains Baptist Church in her older years of life.
Aunt Martha and her sister, Rebecca, lived together after the death of their parents. Her house was only about 300 feet from the house of her parents. I visited the site of her home in 1994 and viewed the fallen down ruins of the old house. In the midst of the ruins were flowers which still grow each spring. Just as she tended to the flowers, she tended to her children and they too still grow today and are a LIVING TESTIMONY to AUNT MARTHA.
Martha Ann Key spelled her name as KEE which is the way her Uncle Henry (Kee) Key spelled his name. Henry was a brother to John B. Key and he lived on the Lancaster County and Chesterfield County line. His house is listed on the Mills Atlas of 1825.
