Biography

William was born in 1820.

William S. Key (1820 - 1888) married Lydia Davis Jones Key (1821 - 1896). These are their known children:

  1. John William Key (1840 - 1902)
  2. Achelus Shedrick Key (1842 - 1930)
  3. Lewis Jones Key (1843 - 1899)
  4. Augustin Shadrack Key (1845 - 1911)
  5. Russell Rutherford Key (1846 - 1896)
  6. King David Key (1848 - 1921)
  7. Sarah Jane Key Key (1850 - 1944)
  8. Gabriel Osburn Key (1854 - 1933)
  9. Rosanna Price Key Badgett (1855 - 1904)
  10. Lydia Boles Key Badgett (1857 - 1947)
  11. Mahalie Emily Key Taylor (1860 - 1954)
  12. Mary Elizabeth Key Hickman (1862 - 1955)

William spent his life in Surry County, North Carolina and raised his family there.

Irene Key Padgett in her history "Key Is My Name" presented a history of William S. Key's life including his burial in the Weston Cemetery, Umatilla County, Oregon. She says William was visiting relatives there when he died of pneumonia. The gravestone for Lydia (Jones) Key in Surry County, NC says William died in Walla Walla, WA. The death register in Walla Walla, WA for 1888 does not support this assertion. It appears more likely that William died in Weston, Oregon.

William passed away in 1888.
