I found this record on the site mentioned below. This is the first I've heard that Joshua's wife was a Cherokee Indian. I'm posting this information here so that anyone interested can see it. I'm not changing the records until and unless this information can be verified.

The following information was found at this link: https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/keyes/373/

Joshua Keyes's second wife was Mary Ann Bailey (daughter of William Bailey), not Jane Howell. They married July 22, 1844 in Monroe County, MS, and had three daughters, Elizabeth (1844), Charity (1846), and Tabitha (1849), all born in either Covington or Smith County, MS.I read another e-mail you sent about how they name changed.Your mother is right.A set of brothers fought, but I don't know if they were Joshua's sons or he and his brothers. One brother even took the name Kees (Simpson County, MS).We descend through Joshua's oldest son, Joseph Berry Keys.As for Joshua's first wife, Sarah, she was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian from North Carolina. She may not have had a last name. In fact, Sarah may be a name that she was given at the time of her marriage. It is thought that Sarah is buried somewhere in South Carolina since he married Mary Ann shortly after migrating to Mississippi.A lot of work has been done on this family by several different people.I hope you find what you need. posted by Virginia Keys

We do not know the parents of Joshua Keyes/Keys.

Joseph Keys and Mary Piggott Keys were not the parents of Joshua. Mary would have been 8 years old when Joshua was born.
