Biography

Charles Thomas Keys was born in 1871 in Battersea, London, England to William Keys and Susannah (Hosking) Keys. His birth was registered in Wandsworth, London in the first quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Hosking.[1]

In 1871 Charles Keys (age 3 months) lived in Battersea, London with his father William (39, Police Constable), mother Susannah (44), and four siblings: Emily (13, Scholar), Louisa (10, Scholar), William (7, Scholar), and John (5, Scholar).[2]

In 1881 Charles Keys (age 10, Scholar) lived at Warsill St in Battersea with his father William (49, Carpenter Journeyman), mother Susannah (54), and four siblings: Emily (21), Louisa (19), William (17), and John (15).[3]

In 1891 Charles Keys (age 20, Drug Store Packer) lived at North Street in Brighton, Sussex with his father William (59, Furniture Packer), sister Louisa (29), and niece Emily Mayle (10, Scholar).[4]

Worked as a Metropolitan Police Constable: Charles Thomas Keys, warrant number 77726. Joined on 6 June 1892, and left on 30 Sept 1910. Last posted to L Division as a PC.[5]

In 1901 Charles Keys (age 30, Met Detective Constable) lived at Lower Kennington Lane in Lambeth, London.[6]

Charles Thomas Keys (age 29, son of William Keys) married Beatrice Violet Lawrence (age 20, daughter of Jesse Lawrence) on 26 Sep 1901 in Wimbledon, Surrey.[7] The marriage was registered in Kingston, Surrey in the third quarter of the year.[8]

Charles and Beatrice had three daughters: Lily Violet (Keys) Prior (1902-1994), Ena Beatrice (Keys) Copsey (1907-1963), and Mary Phyllis (Keys) Moore (1910-).

In 1911 Charles Thomas Keys (age 40, Formerly Police Officer Kent, Police Pensioner) was a patient in Hampstead, London.[9] At Friedenheim Hospital, which provided hospice care for terminally ill men.[10] His wife Beatrice Violet (30) was living in Merton, Surrey with their three daughters: Lily Violet (8), Ena Beatrice (4), and Mary Phillis (1).[11]

Charles T Keys passed away in 1911, aged 40 years. His death was registered in Hampstead in the last quarter of the year.[12]
