John Kidd married Mary Ann Matthew in Windsor, New South Wales during 1857.[1] Windsor and Richmond Gazette (NSW : 1888 - 1961) Fri 24 Sep 1920 Page 5 DEATH OF MR. J. E. KIDD.

DEATH OF MR. J. E. KIDD. We take from the "Molong Express" of Saturday week, the following account of the death of a brother of Mr. George Kidd, of Windsor:— Yet another of the old residents of this district has gone to his eternal rest, in the person of Mr. John Edward Kidd, who passed away at Cudal on Saturday last, at the age of 86 years. He was possessed of an iron constitution, and was in robust health, which enabled him to swing a heavy hammer at his trade as a blacksmith, till he attained the advanced age, for such a feat, of 82 years. From that time up till about two months ago deceased enjoyed fairly good health, and his illness at first was not severe enough to compel him to remain constantly in bed till about a week before death occurred. The immediate cause of death was heart failure, supervening upon senile decay. During his illness he received all the attention and medical skill a loving family could provide, and thus his last days were spent as comfortably as possible. He passed away peacefully in the presence of his attentive nurse and daughter, Mrs. Wood, and his grandchild, Mrs. H. Dean. All the members of his family visited him during his last hours. A native of England, the deceased gentleman arrived in Australia when four years of age, with his parents, who settled down at Richmond, Hawkesbury River. He was apprenticed as a blacksmith to Mr. W. Biddle at Richmond, and subsequently he became the chief smith in the forge of the late Andrew Town, who was noted in the Hawkesbury district as the owner of the famous sires, Grand Flaneur, Tarragon, Tim Whiffler, Childe Harold, Maribyrnong, Cheviot, and King Tom. In due course deceased was attracted by gold discoveries to The Ovens diggings, and later, about 40 years ago, he arrived at Manildra, and engaged in his trade there. While at Manildra he executed all the pile shoeing for the traffic bridge. Deceased next returned to Richmond for a short period, and then removed to Cudal, about 32 years ago settling down there at his trade, with his son Jack. He continued in that business actively till about four years before his death, when he retired, and resided with his daughter, Mrs. W. Wood. Deceased married Miss Mary Ann Matthews, of Prospect, who predeceased him about 37 years ago. The issue of the marriage was a family of 16, seven of whom are still living, viz.: Mesdames T. Barrett (Nyngan), W. King (Canbelego) and W. Wood (Cudal), Messrs. Harry (Bumberry), John (Cudal), George (Orange) and Richard Kidd (Mendooran). Deceased had 30 grandchildren. His youngest brother,Mr. G. J. C. Kidd, is a resident of Windsor. The late Mr. Kidd was of a quiet and retiring disposition, and did not take an active part in public affairs; but he had a wide circle of friends, who were deeply attached to him and appreciated his many good qualities. His character was above reproach, and the Cudal district is the poorer by his demise. He was fondly love by his family, being an indulgent father and faithful friend.
