DISTRICT NEWS. (From our Various Correspondents.) ISLINGTON DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT. An old resident, in the person of Mr. George W. Kiidd, passed away on Sunday last, in his 66th year. The deceased gen-. tleman, who was a brother of the Hon John Kidd, Minister for mines, and Alderman W. L. Kidd, of the Newcastle Council, ar- rived In the colony 23 years ago, and open- ed In the boot and shoe manufacturing in- dustry, and for many years had the largest output from his factory in the Northern district. He was the father of Alderman John Kidd, the ex-Mayor of Wickham, and Mr. G. Kidd, who is well known Is com- mercial circles, and in conjunlction with his sons the late Mr. Kidd was widely known both in commercial and political life. He was a strong Protectionist, and a staunch adherent of the late Mr. James Fletcher. He was for a number of years president of the Islington Mechanics institute, and was connected with the instituton from its in- ception. He retired from active business some four years ago, and at the time of his demise was residing with his son, Mr. George Kildd. The deceased, who leaves a wife and his two seas, and several grand children, was a native of Kincardinshire, Scotland. The funeral took place on Monday, and the remains werefollowed by a lengthy cortege, amongst whom was his brother, Alderman W. L. Kidd, Mr. J. Thomson, MP.. Mr. W. Bower, chairman of the Miners' Association, Mr. Adam Cook, AI- dlermen Gilbert, Myers, Brown, and Jame-. son, and Messrs. ,W. M. Shedden (council clerk), S. Richardson (Inspector), and W. Back, of the Wickham Council. Aldermen Myers and Brown and 'Messrs. Shedden and Back ,were the pall-bearers. The Rev. E., Fox officiated at the grave, which is situat- ed in the Wesleyan portion of Sandgate Cemetery. 'Messrs. Gilbert Bros. were the undertakers.
