Nancy was born about 1807. She passed away after 1890.
Per The Ward Family Genealogy by Billie Edythe Ward:
Nancy's will was probated in Johnson Co., KY in August 1899. She made application in 1866 for a "mother's pension" for the services of her son, Solomon, in the Civil War. She states that her husband, Solomon, deserted her. Affidavits by her son, Thompson Ward and Robert Spriggs, a relative, say the same and that they do not know his whereabouts.
Affidavits made by Solomon's brother, Shadrack and cousin, Isaac Meek, made statements that said "Solomon is dead, I know." It appears strange that his brother and cousin know he is dead but his wife and children do not. Nancy was awarded a pension of $8 per month.
Family lore has Nancy arrived here as a stowaway on a ship "which came to this country". However all census records indicate she was born in Ohio.
