Biography

The youngest son of John and Mary (Saylor) Kidwell was born in 1871, married in 1899, and died in 1903. He was known most often by the nickname "Burt", and his wife was Viola May Heck.

The Jefferson County Marriage Register reveals that Mr. Frank L. Kidwell and Miss Viola May Heck, both single and both age 26, were married in Shepherdstown on September 20, 1899. Frank's place of birth was listed as Jefferson County and Viola's as Washington County, Maryland.

In 1901, Burt Kidwell was the informant for the death records for each of his parents.

Burt and Viola had one son and one daughter. Sadly, the son, Shepherd Lee Kidwell, died of the croup when he was but two years old. The following year, Burt and Viola named their newborn daughter Elizabeth Shepherd Kidwell.

Frank Leo "Burt" Kidwell is buried in Shepherdstown's Elmwood Cemetery.
