Birth record gives her name as Maude W, and other researchers have her name as Maud Winifred, but Maud Margaret was used for marriage and death records. Age on burial record suggest a birth year of 1876. Given her parent's penchant for not registering births, it's possible Maud Winifred and Maude Margaret are actually different people.
Notes from grandson Roy Toshack, August 2004:
I met Maude many years ago; she was a bit of a dragon. My brother, Keith, was sent to live with her in 1940 when our father joined up in Cootamundra. Father had already served in the Middle East in WWI.
You will note that some of Maude's children do not appear in my family tree. This is because strictly speaking they are not "Toshacks". This covers John, Una and Theo (Billy). There may be other opinions but information furnished to me indicates that they were not Olaf's, but from later relationships after Maude and Olaf had parted company.
Notes from Mary Ancich (daughter of Una), October 2017:
My brother and I think that our grandfather (and probably also the father of Jack) is a German called Auguste Krautz. He and his family lived near Albury and when Roy (the eldest of Maud's children) re-enlisted in the army during WW1 he gave Maud Krautz as his next of kin. We don't think he would give a name for a next of kin unless it was the one that Maud was known by in the community. So we definitely think Auguste Krautz was a long term partner of Maud. He never married and there are no children mentioned on his gravesite.
