Casper fought in the Civil War in which he had enlisted in Company C, 28th Regiment of the North Carolina Troops. Captured at Appomattox Court House and held as a prisoner of war for several years. Casper and his family lived in the Clines Township of Catawba County, in which they were farmers. Casper and both wives are buried at Millers/St. Stephens Lutheran Church (ELCA), Cemetery.
