John Edward married Lucy (Grosh) Debring in Frederick County, Maryland on 8 January 1874. He was her second husband[3] They had at least three children, but the only one who survived was daughter Lucy.[4][5][6]
On the 1880 and 1900 census his occupation was tanner.[7][8]
He died at home on 31 January 1914 in Frederick City; his burial record lists the cause of death as "ruptured compensatiory".[1]
