George Kimball went to Milwaukee in 1855 where he was in the furniture business till 1859. Then he went across the plains to Denver arriving April 28, 1860. He went to Black Hawk in May 1860 where he built a stamp mill and engaged in milling and mining.
He was commissioned First Lt. and Reg. Adjutant in 2nd Colorado Infantry, Feb. 23, 1861. Promoted to Capt. in same reg. Co. E. He mustered out in 1864. He returned to Colorado in 1865.
President Grant appointed him Postmaster at Golden and President Hayes reappointed him for a total of 11 years. He was city clerk and superintendent of Water Works for 3 years.
Elected County Commissioner for 4 years - 2 years as Chairman. He was a third degree Mason.
He was elected Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Colorado in 1887.
