George Kimber was born ~1823 in London, England to William Kimber. He had at least one brother Charles Frederick Kimber.
William Kimber (George's father) passed away in 1852, leaving to his two sons George and Charles Frederick his property holdings in Croydon, Surrey - specifically 76, 77 and 78 Old Town, 1 and 2 Pump Pail, and the Running Horse tavern. His sons were listed on the voting lists as the owners, but living elsewhere* from 1852 - 1859, when the properties were auctioned off.
George married Mary Ann Stanley on Dec 25th, 1847 at Salter's Hall Chapel. They had five children (one of whom died in infancy) before immigrating to Canada in 1870. They arrived June 30 1870 on the ship Medway and settled in Toronto, Ontario.
The Kimbers became well established members of the city's high society, often mentioned in the society pages of the newspaper. George Kimber had work as a messenger, while one of his son's George Kimber Jr worked in the City Treasurer's department until his death in 1923, and his other son William worked in the post office and received a medal in 1923 for meritorious service, the article stating he had never missed a days work in 41 years. His daughters likewise married prominent toronto citizens.
George Kimber passed away on Sept 30 1888 at the age of 65 and was buried in the Necropolis Cemetery in Toronto on Oct 2 1888.
