Biography

Thomas William Kimble was born 25th October 1843 in Chambers County, Alabama. Thomas William Kimble's full name given in the marriage license of his daughter Lois Sallie Kimble. [1]

Thomas, age 7, appears in the 1850 Federal Census in Chambers County, Alabama in the household of his father William H. Kimbrel (Kimbrell). The household of William H. Kimbrel appeared as follows: William H. Kimbrel, age 30; Martha Kimbrel, age 37; Thomas W. Kimbrel, age 7; Francis M. Kimbrel, age 5; Robert A. Kimbrel, age 3; Peter Kimbrel, age 1; John J. Farley, age 18; Susan Farley, age 18; Christopher, age 17; James E. Farley, age 16; William Farley, age 14; Emily Farley, age 13; and Sarah Farley, age 9. [2]

Thomas, age 16, appears in the 1860 Federal Census in Spaulding County, Georgia, in the household of his step-brother, James E. Farley. James E. Farley's household appears as follows: James E. Farley, age 24; Nancy Farley, age 25; James W. Farley, age 6 months; Bud Farley, age 3; Emily Farley, age 22; and Thomas Kimble, age 16. [3]

Thomas enlisted in 1861 as a Private in Cavalry Co. E of the 2nd Georgia Regiment. Thomas was captured on the 9th of October 1863 at Sugar Creek, TN and was held as a prisoner of war at Camp Morton Indiana. Thomas was transferred for exchange on the 4th of March 1865. [4]

Thomas married sometime about 1869, Rebecca Hale (Hail). This marriage is believed to have taken place in Georgia. Rebecca Hale's family were living in Henry County, Georgia, in 1860. A search of the marriage records in Henry County and Spaulding County, Georgia has not located a marriage record for Thomas and Rebecca.

Thomas, age 27, appears in the 1870 Federal Census in Henry County, Georgia, Militia District 723. Thomas' household appears as follows: Thomas, age 27; Rebecca Kimble, age 30; Azoar Kimble age 2 months, and original census record gives the month of birth as May; and Falicia Kimble, age 17. [5]

Thomas married Savannah Arabella Evans on the 31st of May 1896 in Shelby County, Alabama. The marriage record states that the marriage was preformed by Minister C.W. O'Hara at the brides mothers residence. [6]

Thomas, age 56 appears in the 1900 Federal Census in Shelby County, Alabama. Thomas' household is listed as follows: Thomas, age 56; Savanna, age 42; and Lois S., age 3. [7]

Thomas, age 65 appears in the 1910 Federal Census in Shelby County, Alabama. Thomas' household is listed as follows: Thomas, age 65; Savannah, age 51; Sallie L., age 13; Joana E., age 6; and Dwight Davis, age 35, listed as a hired man. [8]

Thomas, age 76 appears in the 1920 Federal Census in Shelby county, Alabama. Thomas' household is listed as follows: Thomas, age 76; Savannah, age 61; Sallie, age 22; and Esstelle, age 16. [9]

Thomas completed in 1921 a census questionnaire sent to Confederate veterans, by the State of Alabama, who were receiving a pension based on their service in the Civil War. Thomas stated that his date of birth was the 25th of October 1843, and he was born in LaFayette, Chambers County, Alabama. Thomas gave his date of enlistment as 1861 as a Private in Cavalry Co. E of the 2nd Georgia Regiment. Thomas stated that he had lived in Georgia from 1858 to 1873 and other than living in Georgia he had always been a resident of the State of Alabama. The form ask for the names, addresses and occupation of his living children, and Thomas listed the following: Azora Fulton, Saginaw, Alabama, no occupation listed; Bosh Lee Kimble, Lorene Texas, occupation Farmer; Sallie Kimble, Columbiana, Alabama, no occupation listed; and Estelle Wells, Columbiana, Alabama, no occupation listed. Thomas died on the 6th of March 1924, in Columbiana, Shelby County, Alabama. Thomas was buried in the Summer Hill Cemetery in Shelby County, Alabama. His memorial has photos.[11]
