Biography

Peter was born about 1756. He passed away in 1827.

KINDER Peter Birth: PA Circa 1759 Service: PA Rank: PVT Death: Indiana Before 18 May 1827 Spouse: Dolly His Daughters of the American Revolution Number is A066324

Peter Kinder born around 1756 In East Bethlehem, Washington, Pennsylvania died in May of 1827 (his will was written 23 Jan 1827 and went into probate the 18th day of May so he died in May probably.

His wife Margaret "Dolly" See was born in Berks Co., Pennsylvania 22 Sept 1755 and she was still living in Jan of 1827 as she is mentioned in the will so I don't know an exact date of her death.

First name could be either John or Johann

The following account of him comes from a non-documented source: THE KINDER FAMILY

"Peter Kinder, Sr. was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania in the southwestern section of the state. When he was born, sometime prior to 1765, it was actually Westmoreland County because Washington County was not created until 1781. He was of German descent with the surname sometimes spelled Gunter/Guenter. Peter married Dolly See about 1778. It is believed she may have been his 3rd wife. The name of his first wife is not known and a second wife was identified as Levina.[1] Peter was father to at least nine children. During the Revolutionary War, he served in the Washington County Militia, 2nd Company of the 5th Battalion under the command of Capt. Ezekiel Rose.

Peter, Dolly, and their children moved into the new state of Kentucky in the early 1790s and settled in Shelby County, east of Louisville. In 1795 he purchased some land on "Bullskin creek, a branch of Brashears creek" and paid $100 English pounds for the acreage. For the next 31 years they lived on Bullskin creek; reared their children; and saw their grandchildren come along as the years passed by.

In 1826, Peter Kinder sold his land to Jeremiah Anderson for $455.47, which was to be paid by March 1, 1829. Peter and Dolly moved to Montgomery Co., Indiana shortly thereafter to live with or near their sons and families who had moved there earlier, about 1825. In May 1827, Peter Kinder died in Indiana and his will (written 23 Jan.1827) was probated in Montgomery County at Crawfordsville. His wife, Dolly, continued to live with her sons and died there sometime after 1827"

Research Notes

There has been confusion with this family and that of the wealthy Wythe County, Virginia landowner Peter Kinder who married a Margaret. Peter of Wythe died in 1807 and left records. His wife is never named in the records as "Dolly". However, census records show Dolly Krider a widow in Montgomery County, Indiana following a similar emigration pattern to her brother John's children.

  1. The second wife of this Peter Kinder is disputed. The only recorded Levina Kinder was married to a different Peter Kinder and the couple lived in Madison County, Kentucky. Their children were born concurrently to the children of Peter and Dolly Kinder making it extremely unlikely that Levina could be the spouse of the this Peter Kinder

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Peter:

Kinder-284 and Kinder-34 appear to represent the same person because: Data shows duplicate.

Kinder-250 and Kinder-34 appear to represent the same person because: The two profiles share a spouse, they also share date and place information. The dates are not the same, but neither profile gives documentation for the dates specified. The similarity of place and sharing of the spouse should be sufficient for the merge.

Steven, why not share this data? Either here or in the profile of Kinder-34?

Connie, do the few inconsistencies REALLY outweigh the compelling facts?

But then, I expressed my concerns earlier...

Kinder-250 and Kinder-34 are not ready to be merged because: some inconsistencies

Same name. Same spouse. Same birth/death location. Same death year!

So, perhapps a typo was made in birth year?

I find too many coincidences and too few discrepancies to have refused this merge - However, that is simply my opinion. And I'm merely a concerned member who has surely made my share of misteaks.  :(

Kinder-250 and Kinder-34 do not represent the same person because: Peter Kinder had a son Peter

Discrepancy on DOB

Kinder-250 and Kinder-34 appear to represent the same person because: Birth/death dates and locations, as well as spouses almost total agreement. Almost mirror images.
Peter Kinder Sr, is my 5th GGrandfather. I have many dates and other pertinant info for this person, his wife, and other in their family tree.
