Biography

Katherine, 10 years old, was one of the four children of William Kinge listed as immigrating to America with the Hull Company in 1635.[1] She was born in England in 1625[2][3]and died in Aquebogue about 1691.[2] Her father, William King was an English Puritan,[2] aged 40 years,[2] her mother Dorothy[2] aged 34[2] when they sailed from Weymouth, Dorsetshire, England[2] in March of 1635-6;[2] bound for New England.[2]

Katherine's siblings who sailed with the family were Mary aged 12, William aged 8, Hannah aged 6 and Samuel aged 2.[2]

The King family settled at Salem, Massachusetts.[2] Her father was made a freeman on May 26, 1636[2]but was put under Puritan ban in 1637 because he identified himself with the Antinomians and took an active part in this religious controversy.[2]

Katherine King married John Swayze before 1650 in Salem.[2]on March 12, 1650.[3]They moved from Salem to Southold, Long Island as early as 1658[2] and became members of the first church founded in Southold in 1650, pastored by Rev. John Younge.[2] In 1669 they moved to Aquebogue in Suffolk County.[2]
