Biography

1776 Project
Robert King performed Patriotic Service in North Carolina in the American Revolution.

Robert, son of Richard King and Margaret Barclay, was born January 25, 1736 in New Jersey. [1] His Christening was on March 4, 1736 in Tennent, Monmouth County, New Jersey. [2]

He married Mary Harrison, daughter of the first William Morrison and Margaret Hays, who lived on Third Creek at a mill in Rowan County, North Carolina.

Robert and Mary King lived at Snow Creek, currently Iredell County, North Carolina. Their children were:

  2. Mary King
  3. Richard King
  4. Martha King
  5. Samuel King
  6. Ann King
  7. Rebecca King
  8. Elizabeth King
  9. William King
  10. Davie King
  11. Rhoda King

He passed away January 6, 1806 in Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee. Robert is believed to have been laid to rest in King Cemetery, Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee, United States. [3]

Revolutionary War Service

His service during the Revolutionary War while living in Rowan County, North Carolina is the basis of numerous DAR applications from his descendants. He married Mary Morrison while in North Carolina; they had eleven children, many of whom moved from North Carolina to Sumner County, Tennessee and then to Missouri.

Research Notes

Robert was born January 25, 1736 per the bible record of his father, Richard King. [1] According to the bible record excerpt they were residing in New Jersey where 11 children were born but the exact location in New Jersey wasn't known.
