Biography

Drexell Ward King was born in Webster Springs, WV on June 29, 1940 [1] to Ward King and Ina Bonner .

Drexell is a 1958 graduate from Walkersville High School, Walkersville, WV. [2]

Drexell was known as the jokester in the family. He never avoided the opportunity to pull a prank or tell a joke. This is something that he inherited from his father, Ward. In his later years, he would hand carve items such as hillbillies, mountain men and more.

Marriages

February 12, 1963: Drexell Ward King married Wanda Carol Morris in Ivydale, Clay County, WV. [3]

1990: Drexell Ward King married Kay Childster in Burnsville, WV

Military Service

After graduation, Drexell joined the US Air Force were he spent six years in Fairbanks, Alaska as a radio repair technician.

Occupation

In 1974, Drexell and Wanda with their four children moved to North Platte, NE. Drexell worked as a truck driver for C F Trucking Company. After Drexell and Wanda's divorce (about 1982), Drexell moved back to West Virginia and started driving a truck for Rite-Aid.

"Wolfman" was very popular and very well known on the CB channels throughout the US wherever Drexell drove.

It should be noted that Drexell was very interested in his family's genealogy. He would call up relatives and visit them door-to-door to capture accurate genealogy records. Because of his diligence for accuracy and love of genealogy, many King's of Braxton County, WV/Webster County, WV/Lewis County, WV, Bonner's of Webster County, WV and relatives that first came to the US are well documented using Drexell's handwritten notes.

Death and Burial

Drexell passed away of a sudden heart attack on January 12, 2010 in Chesterfield County VA. [4] Always making sure that he drove safely on the road, Drexell had pulled over into a rest stop due to not feeling well. As he started to enter the highway again and experienced his heart attack, he managed to get his truck off the road and away from other vehicles.

Drexell is buried next to his father, Ward Montgomery King, at the Mt. Hebron Methodist Church Cemetery in Caress, Braxton County, WV. [5]
