Biography

William King was born October 4, 1738 in Little Britain, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States.[1][2][3] His parents are Robert King and Ann McLaughlin. [4][5]

About 1764, William purchased his father's land inLittle Britain, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, according to the terms of Robert's will.[6]

On December 29, 1768 he married Isabella Campbell in Little Britain, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.[1][4][3][7] Their children are

  6. Ann King
  7. William King
  8. Thomas Campbell King
  9. Rachel King

In 1779 he was listed as a taxable male in Little Britain, in the Pennsylvania state census (household composition unknown).[8] In that year (as a patriot) he paid the Effective Supply Tax for the Revolutionary War. The tax was for 150 acres; 3 horses, 5 cattle, and 6 sheep.[9][10]

In 1780 he is a private 1st class in the muster roll of 3rd company, 6th Pennsylvania Battalion (Lancaster County) in John Duncan's command in Revolutionary War[11][12][10] He is listed the same way on June 22, 1781.

He is listed in the 1800 Pennsylvania Septennial census of Little Britain, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Only William's name is listed (no other members of the household).[13]

In June 1800, he is living in Little Britain, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in a household with two other males and four females. One male age 10-15 (b. 1785-1790); one male age 16-25 (b. 1775-1784) - probably Hugh; one male age 45 & over (b. <1755) - himself; one female under 10 (b. 1790-1800); one female 10-15 (b. 1785-1790); one female 16-25 (b. 1775-1784) - possibly a servant; one female age 45 & over (b. <1755) - his wife Isabella.[14]

In 1804 he brings his wife, three sons, and two daughters to Wayne Township, Columbiana County, Ohio from Pennsylvania. He settles on section 7 of the land there.[1]

William died October 19, 1813 in Lisbon, Columbiana County, Ohio.[4][3] He is buried there in Jordanville Cemetery (aka "Old Dutch Cemetery" or "Old Presbyterian Cemetery").[2]
