Jane (King) Hawker was born in Somerset, England.

Jane King was born in 1837. The birth registration district is Wincanton, Somerset and her mother's name is recorded as "Rapson".[1][2]

Jane King (daughter of Ruth and James King) was baptised at North Cadbury, Somerset on 17 September 1837.[3][4] (I’m not sure if this is the same Jane King. The 1841 census shows her as the 3rd daughter of this family which doesn’t gel with her being illegitimate as noted on her marriage certificate.)

The 1841 census shows Jane as 4 years old, living with her parents James and Ruth at Lower Woolston, Yarlington, Somerset. Her sisters, 6 year old Elizabeth and 8 year Ruth old, also lives there.[5]

The 1851 census lists Jane King as a 13 year old House Servant born in Preston, Somerset about 1838. She is living in the household of Catharine and Joseph Hide in Preston Street, Preston, Somerset. [6]

She married Samuel Hawker on 14 April 1857 at Preston Plucknett, Somerset, England. The marriage record states that she is "illegitimate" and there is no father cited.[7][8][9]

The 1871 census lists Jane Hawker (born Preston, Somerset) as the 33 year old wife of Samuel Hawker (37) who is a railway labourer. They are living in Halewood, Lancashire with their children: Florence (13), Sarah Ann (7), George (4) and Mary Jane (1). As the children as listed as being born in a variety of locations it shows they travelled a lot for work. Jane is listed as being born in Preston, Somerset about 1838. [10]

She passed away in the July-September quarter 1883 in Rochdale, Lancashire aged 45.[11]
