Biography

Sarah was a Friend (Quaker)

Sarah was the daughter of Joseph and Mary King of Adderbury, Oxfordshire. She was born on 21 January 1734/5 (Quaker 11th month 1734).[1][2]

Sarah married William Atkins[3] on 18 September 1764 at Adderbury, Oxfordshire. The marriage record of Banbury Quaker Monthly Meeting names her parents as Joseph (of Adderbury, deceased) and Mary.[4] They had the following children:

  • William,[3][5] born at Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire on 26 October 1765[6][7]
  • Joseph, born at Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire on 28 March 1768[8][9]
  • Edward King,[3][5] born at Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire on 31 August 1774[10][11]
  • John, born on 19 August 1770,[12][13] died on 29 June 1806 and was buried at Chipping Norton Quaker burial ground on 3 July, with his Quaker death and burial record describing him as a maltster and seedsman, age 35 at his death[14]
  • Samuel,[3][5] born on 11 September 1772[15][16]
  • Sarah, born at Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire on 19 April 1777,[17][18] died on 17 March 1798 and was buried at Chipping Norton Quaker burial ground on 23 March[19][20][21]

Sarah died on 5 June 1823 and was buried on 13 June at Chipping Norton Quaker burial ground.[22][23] (A transcript of her death record made for Witney Quaker Monthly Meeting gives her death date as 10 June.[24])
