Biography

David Clark King born on 19 September 1837 in Tennessee in a moving wagon enroute to Illinois from Virginia. He was the son of Valentine King (1814) and Deborah Ann Umbarger (1817-1895). [1] [2] [3]

David Clark King graduated from Marshall College. [3]

David Clark King served in the United States Civil War on the Union side. [3] He enlisted as a sergeant and mustered out as a 1st Lieutenant in Company F, 79th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry. [4] [3] In 1907 and 1908, he was listed on an army invalid card for his service during the Civil War. [5] When he died, his widow Martha Long collected a widow's pension for his service. [6] He was wounded twice and participated in 25 or more battles of the Army of the Cumberland. [3]

Research Notes

Add other sources that document the names of Rev. Harry Andrews King's parents.

The 1900 US federal census says that Martha King had 4 children, but only 3 were living. It also says she'd been married for 28 years. The child would have lived sometime between 1872 and 1900. [9]
The 1880 US federal census shows only 3 children, so either the 4th child was born and died between 1872 and 1880 or was born and died between 1880 and 1900. [8] [9]
