Biography

Raymond Ernest King was born at 26 Grosvenor St Glandore on 14th July 1911 to the marriage of John Ernest King and Florence Jane Aitken. He attended Black Forest Primary School to Grade 8 and gained the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Drafting – International Correspondence School. He served an apprenticeship at Cabinetmaking then a series of various positions punctuated by four years plus unemployment during the 1930’s depression. In 1941-1946 he was employed as Tool Design Engineer at the Railway Workshops, Islington Aircraft, in charge of the Drawing office, covering design of tooling required for Beaufort Bomber, Beaufighter, and Lancaster Aircraft. He was then, still at the Railway Workshops, in charge of and establishing their Tool Design Drawing Office, then later Professional Engineer and assistant to the Workshops Manager.

On September 3rd 1938 Raymond Ernest King married Gwendoline Ruth Bowden at the Wesley Methodist Church Norwood. There were two children born to the marriage Mostyn Raymond King born 20th September 1940 and Robin Michael King born 29th March 1945

Raymond Ernest King of Torrens Park, South Australia, Australia, died 14th May 1994 aged 82 years .His Funeral service was conducted in the Heysen Chapel Centennial Pk 18th May 1994, the place of interment of the ashes unknown.
