Biography

John David King was born at 30 Grosvenor St Glandore on 22nd October 1919 and was educated at Black Forest Primary School. His education completed, John was employed as a plumber, working for Jury and Spiers and then ran his own business. He later worked as a contractor at Mobil Petroleum Oil Refinery at Port Stanvac. Other activities included playing football for Edwardstown and Port Noarlunga and President of Port Noarlunga RSL. John was granted life membership of the RSL of Australia on 4th December 1991.

John served in the Army during WW2 enlisting at Wayville on 16th July 1942 serial No S47713, Private, 9th Infantry Battalion. He was discharged on 6th February 1944 after suffering a wound to the leg.

On 12th April 1947, John David King and Olive Louisa Fryar celebrated their marriage at the Black Forest Baptist Church South Rd Glandore. There were two children born to the marriage. David John King born 7th April 1949 at Mile End Community Hospital and Margaret Nora King born 14th February 1953 at Mile End Community Hospital.

John lived at 43 Clement Tce Christies Beach until about 2000 before moving to St Basil’s Nursing Home Morton Ave Christies Downs. John David King died at Flinders Medical Centre 6th October 2003 aged 83 years and his funeral service conducted at Alfred James Funeral Home 272 South Rd Morphett Vale on Thursday October 9th October 2003. A Cremation Service was conducted at Centennial Park Crematorium, Pasadena, South Australia, on 10 October 2003, the loccation of the ashes unknown.
