Mary was born in 1892. In the Patterson Family Bible it is written "Mary Elizabeth King was Born Aug 9 in the year of our Lord 1892". [1] She was the daughter of Alexander King and Lizzie (Brundidge) King.

In 1900 she was 7 and living with her parents and two siblings in Pennsylvania. Her grandfather John King and her grandparents Elizabeth and Lorenza Brundidger were living with them too. [2]
