Notes from Ann Devillers Genealogy Report of Nathaniel King

Notes for Nathaniel King, Sr.: BIRTH: Tombstone says died 1809 age 63 or 65 depending on whether you believe the 1932 letter from Elena Darling (63), the transcription given to me of the cemetery (65), one photo I took looks like 65, the and the other looks like 63! Accordingly born either 1744 or 1746. Records show christening in Jan 1745 (LDS extraction Plymouth, MA VR 1648-1843) also saw record in Syracuse library p. 74 of Plymouth VR; Mayflower Descendants Vol 20 (LDS film #0161971)

CHRISTENING: Plymouth Church Records LDS film 0161971 Vol 20 Mayflower Descendants

MARRIAGE: Vol I p. 8 VR of Kingston, MA...Church Records of First Church of Kingston Unitarian; Pension states married by Rev. William Rand. Nathaniel King of Plimpton and Rebecca Everson of Kingston.

DEATH: Rev. War pension file W16037 (MA); I saw tombstone in Carleton Cemetery, Pisgah State Park, Winchester, NH in July of 1993. It says: died 29 May 1809 age 65 or 63 (hard to read but I would guess 63)

---A list of MA Soldiers in Am. Rev. Vol 9 shows a Nathaniel King from Rochester-pvt. (he also appears in the deed records in the 1780's), a Nathaniel King of Kingston pvt. in Capt Ebenezer Washburn's Co., Col. Thomas Lothrop's regt, Brig. Joseph Cushing's brigade This looks like "our" Nathaniel but doesn't match the unit listed in wife's pension application. There is a third Nathaniel King of W. Springfield listed as a pvt. in Capt. Chapin's Co and later in Capt. Stoddards Co., Vose's regt as a Corporal Feb 1777 to Mar 1778 reported deceased! This is the company listed by Rebecca in her application, and she also him as a corporal. It appears that their is a confusion of records here. According to family records of Charles E. King (Lyndon - John B. line) he served with Washington at Valley Forge. No confirmation of this.

LAND:

18 Sept 1781 Plymouth co., MA Vol 60 p 227 "of Kingston & wife Rebecca" sold to Seth Cushing of Plimpton for 56.8 £ land and building in Kingston laid off in division of estate of father John Everson late of Kingston- bounds set in probate records. Also rights given to our Honorable mother Silence Everson; witnessed by Ignatius Loving & Jabez Westin; recorded 11 Mar 1783

19 Sept 1781 Plymouth co., MA vol 60 p 228 Seth Cushing paid Jabez Weston of Pelham in Hampshire co. 56.8#--Cushing conveyed to Rebecca King, wife of Nathaniel of Halifax, land & house & barn also woodland 69 acres in Halifax; land Cushing bought of David Ripley (Plimpton) and he got from Jonathan Holmes III (Plimpton)

19 Nov 1793 bought land in Winchester, NH Vol. 21 p.478

NOTES: He apparently moved to Winchester, NH sometime between Sept. 1781 (land records)and 1790 (fed. census)

CHILDREN: it would appear from census records that Nathaniel had the following children: 2 males born 1768-1774; 1 male born 1774-1790; 3 females born 1774-1784 and one female born 1784-1790 for a total of 3 sons and 4 daughters. Descendant Charles E. King lists the following sons - Nathaniel, Jr., Isaac (8 May 1773 bd differs from mine), and Hosea. I have included these on my group sheet because of some other verification. He also lists the following daughters - Mary (1 Apr 1774), Rebecca, Grace, Hannah (15 Mar 1783) and Lucy (27 Sept 27 1781) who he says died unmarried in 1826. Except for Lucy, I can find no verification for the other females. I believe, however that lucy married Lewis Fassett.
