[1]John Calvin King Sr., a retired cabinetmaker, died Sept. 22, 1988[2], in Denver, Colo., at the age of 81. Funeral services were held Sept. 26 in Englewood with interment in Hampden Memorial Gardens.[3] He was born Dec. 21, 1907[4], to M.S. and Mary Hartzler King[5] at Garden City, Mo. He was married Dec. 31, 1932[6], to Esther E. Helmuth, who survives. He was preceded in death by a brother, Emery, and a sister, Phoebe Ann Graber. He worked for Miller Transport 1930-35 and the "Kansas City Star" 1935-46 in Missouri before moving to Denver in 1946, where he established the King Cabinet Shop. He retired in 1972. He was active in community endeavors and several terms on the local school board. He and his wife were members of Augustana Lutheran Church.
