Biography

Isaac King (John 2, Clement 1 ), of Providence, later of Scituate, Rhode Island, was born about 1711, and died at Scituate, Rhode Island on 5 July 1757. He was admitted as a Freeman at Providence on 6 May 1729, and first purchased land at Scituate on 6 November 1733. He married at Providence on 6 May 1729 to Elizabeth Bates, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Corp) Bates. Samuel Bates, his Father-in-law, who purchased land at Scituate before 1731, died 9th April 1746, leaving a Will dated 16 February 1743, in which he mentions his sons John and Nathan, his daughter Margaret and his wife Mary (who died 5 July 1764). He bequeaths " to granddaughter Mary King 40 shillings, when she attains the age of eighteen years; to granddaughter Elizabeth King the same amount; to grandson Samuel King £3, when twenty-one years old; to granddaughter Mercy King 40 shillings." Inventory, £826 16s 6d.

Isaac King's last Will was dated 16 April 1752, and proved 1 August 1757. In it he mentions wife Sarah, sons Samuel, Joshua and Isaac, daughters Mary, Elizabeth and Mercy, and four youngest daughters Sarah, Keziah, Lois and Prudence, and directing the division of certain household goods between his wife and the seven daughters. His last Will names his wife Sarah and his brother, Obadiah King, of Providence, as Executrix and Executor, respectively, and directs: " My will further is that my executors put my son Isaac to learn a trade as soon as he is of a suitable age, and also all my other children be by them put out as soon as they are old enough." His inventory amounted to £989 is. Sarah King, his widow, married Joseph Jencks, of Providence, Rhode Island, in April 1760. [1]
