John Otis King was born on March 21, 1806, probably in Nova Scotia.

He was a Justice of Peace Hants Co, Nova Scotia
In 1826 he was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the Hants Co militia. By 1833 he was a 1st Lt, by 1841, a Captain in the 1st Hants Co Militia Regt.
His obituary claims he was made a major during Lt Gov. Doyle's administration.
He was married a second time to Martha on 5 Mar 1840. Together, they had four children.

John passed away on 31 January 1895 in Windsor, Nova Scotia, Canada.
He died in 31 Jan 1895 in his home on Water St Windsor NS and was buried in Windsor.
