Biography

Albert D. Kingman was born in 1822.^[1] He was the son of Isaiah Kingman and Lucy Daniels.

Albert was educated and attended Fulton College at Hickman, KY. He married Mary A. Donaldson^[2] on 28 Apr 1849 in Tiptonville, TN.^[3] He was a Judge.

Albert passed away in 1900, and was buried in Hickman Cemetary, Fulton Co., KY.^[3]

JUDGE A. D. KINGMAN is a native of Worthington, Mass., and was born in the year 1823. His father, Isaiah Kingman, was also a native of the Bay State, followed the vocation of a farmer and died in 1860, at the age of ninety-nine years; his mother, Lucy (Daniels) Kingman, was born in 1761 and died in 1863, at the advanced age of one hundred and two years. Our subject enjoyed good educational advantages in his native town, and at the age of nineteen had acquired a very thorough knowledge of books. He came to Kentucky before attaining his majority, and located at Carrollton, where he studied law in Judge Pryor's office until the fall of 1845, at which time he received license to practice in the courts; came to Hickman, effected a law partnership with E. J. Bullock, Esq., with whom he continued four years, and later was a member of the law firms of Kingman & Wasson, and Kingman & Buck. He was elected county attorney in 1851, and served in that capacity for four years. Mr. Kingman has always manifested a warm interest in the cause of popular education, and to him more than to any other man is Fulton County indebted for its present system of public schools. He was elected school commissioner in 1847, and it may be truthfully said that he inaugurated the system of public instruction now enjoyed by this county. He filled the office of school superintendent at various times, and has had charge of it continuously since 1875. In the year 1849 Mr. Kingman was united in marriage to Mary, daughter of Lockland and Sophia (Thompson) Donaldson, the father a native of Scotland and the mother of England. Mrs. Kingman was born in the city of St. John, New Brunswick, and died in Hickman, in May, 1882, aged fifty-five years. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Kingman now living are the following: C. B., W. G., and Kate. Mr. Kingman is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and in politics is an independent Democrat.^[4]
