Biography

Susannah Kingston was a daughter of Paul Kingston and Lydia Byrd of Bantry, Cork, Ireland[1] [2].

  • Her year of birth is slightly different in different records, so 1814 is uncertain.

In 1826, she travelled with her family to New Brunswick, and settled in North Esk Parish, Northumberland County[3] [1]

On July 20, 1831, she married William Allison, the son of William Allison and Eliza Smyth, who were also recent immigrants from Ireland[1]. [4] [5][6] Their children included:

  1. John, who died young[1]
  2. Lydia, born circa 1835[4], who married Whitney[1]
  3. James, born circa 1837[4], who married 3 times and died in 1925[7][1]
  4. Sarah Jane, born circa 1838, who died young[1]
  5. David, born circa 1841[4] [5], who married Margaret Jane Millar[8] [1]
  6. Susannah, born circa 1845[4][5], who married James Lyon Urquhart[9][1]
  7. William, born circa 1843[4] [5], who married Jessie Whitney[10] [1]
  8. Sarah, born circa 1851[5], who married Thomas Sherrard[11] [1]
  9. John Ritchie, born circa 1854[5], who married Jane Robinson[12] [1]

Susan (Kingston) Allison passed away February 24, 1891[13] [1], and was buried in the Wesley United Church Cemetery in Trout Brook[14]

Research note

Hamilton's Old North Esk is a secondary source. Based on the information he provides in the text, it appears that primary records exist in the paper archives for most of the information he provides on this family. For example he notes that William was Presbyterian, Susan Methodist, and the children were baptized in either one church or the other, which suggests the baptismal records exist. William also left a sizeable estate, and the probate and land records have not been digitized.

Similarly, the Kingston genealogy is based on information and recollections of a grandson of Paul Kingston, however much of the factual information may be confirmed with primary records held in the archives.

Kingston-1010 and Kingston-208 appear to represent the same person because: Same person, one has the parents, the other has spouse and children
