Biography

Daughter of Richard Kingston and Rebecca Nagle, both of Ireland.

1864 - Age 11, Immigrated to Detroit Michigan with mother, Rebecca and brother, Samuel. according to her 1920 Immigration to USA documents

1868 - Age 15, Immigration date according to 1901 Census of Canada. [1] On 4 Apr 1864 Samuel Kingston, a brother of Richard Kingston, paid Richard Elliott, passenger agent in Detroit, money to bring over Rebecca Kingston and her two children, Samuel and Dora from Cork to Detroit. Rebecca and Samuel paid adult fares and Dora paid a child's fare. He paid $118.00 for ocean voyage and $20.00 for inland voyage - $150 gross. This data is from the ledger book of Richard Elliott from 1851-1869 which I transcribed. The original papers and books of Richard Elliott are held in the manuscript collection of the Burton Collection, Detroit Public Library. The 1851-1869 transcriptions were published by the Detroit Society for Genealogical Research as "Passage to America. 1851-1869, the Records of Richard Elliott". Samuel (Richard's son) died 21 Oct 1937 in Chatham, Ontario. I think his sister, Dora, may have taken care of him in his last illness. In one Illinois census she is listed as an aunt of O'Hara and in another as a cousin.[2]

1871 - Age 18, was living in Chatham Ontario. [3] Religion is Church of Scotland. House is # 192. Was working as a servant. Completed 6th grade of elementary school.

Nagle family photos note she is the first cousin of Margaret Nagle, daughter of Henry Nagle and and Elizabeth Wanless.

1901 - Age 37, Birth date noted as April 12, 1863, which is likely an error - should be 1853. Religion is Church of England. [4]

1911 - Living at 212 Thames Street, Chatham, Ontario. Birthdate is not noted. Head of household with three boarders. [5]

1920 - Age 65, Immigrated to United States. Single, Height 5'4", Medium complexion, Grey hair, Blue Eyes, no distinguishing marks. Noted as first immigrated to North America in July 1864. Birth location noted as Clonakilty, Ireland.[6]

1930 - Age 77, Living in Chicago, Illinois, with nephew (or cousin), Benjamin O Hara and his family.

1937 - at the time of her brother Samuel's death, was noted as living in Chicago.

1942 - Died in Maywood, Illinois, USA. [7]

1942 - Age 88, died in Maywood, Cook, Illinois, United States. Buried in Glen Oak Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois. [8] Informant was Ben O'Hara.

Dora never married nor had children.
