Biography

1776 Project
Joseph Kinney III served with Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.

He is mentioned in the History of Bradford County, PA by David Craft. He was a Revolutionary War soldier and fought in several major battles including Dorchester Heights and the Battle of Saratoga. He was a school teacher and later a farmer when he moved to Sheshequin, Bradford County, PA. He had 13 children.

Joseph Kinne(y) b Mar 25, 1756, Plainfield, Conn. d June 3, 1841, Sheshequin, Penn. m June 22, 1781, Plainfield, Conn, Sarah Spalding b Jan 31, 1763, Plainfield, Conn. d June 4,1840, Plainfield, Conn. Daughter of Capt Simon & Ruth Shepherd. Private in Rev War. Enlisted 1775 at Dorchester Heights. Wounded and captured at Long Island. Suffered in prison-ship "Jersey." When released served in Burgoyne campaign until surrender. Pri, Cpl, and Sgt during Rev. On his tombstone is inscribed "A Soldier of the Rev." MI Num 20,732.
