Biography

Alvin Ray "Pat" Kinney was born in 1901 to Herbert Kinney and Phoebe Ray. [1] NOTE: There are many birth dates in different documents for Alvin. He used different ages for various documents. He tried to join the Navy during World War 1 but was too young. He overstated his age and was inducted for a while until they discovered the mistake. He was much younger than his first and second wives, so gave an inaccurate age on those marriage licenses. (Per Janet Kinney, daughter-in-law) [2] [3]

He married Josephine (Josie) Palmer in 1918 in Paw Paw, Michigan. [4] It lists his occupation as stenographer. [5] They were divorced before 1926.

Their first child, Vernon, died during a premature birth in Aug 1918. [6] They had three other children: Howard Alvin in 1920, Helen (adopted name June Sherman) in 1921, and Bernard Barris (adopted name Bruce Delbert Neilsen) in 1923.

Second, Alvin married Francis Dresser Hoover in 1926 in San Francisco, San Francisco, California. The marriage license shows that each had been previously married. It lists Alvin's occupation as draftsman of fixtures. It lists Frances' occupation as dressmaker. It lists her birth place as Marysville, California. Her father's name is given as Jno Dresser and her mother's as Kathryn Garoutte. Both list their ages as 38. [7] Francis Dresler died in 1943. Alvin Kinney was in Letterman Hospital when she died. He was there from Apr 29, 1943 - Sept 24, 1943. He was recuperating from his stint at Guadalcanal. He was there during the battle.

Third, Alvin married Peggy Stark Chasteen on 20 May 1946 in Clark, Nevada, United States.[8]

1910 Census shows Alvin (misread as Cilvin) age 8 living in Columbia, Van Buren, Michigan with his parents, Herbert (age 48) and Phoebe (age 44) and his sister, Lela (age 16). It shows Herbert's occupation as real estate, farm property. In the 1910 census Cilvin (age 8) was the single son of Herbert Kenney in Columbia, Van Buren, Michigan, United States.[9]
