Mary Ann Kirby was born in 1831 in Hampstead, Middlesex, England, daughter of Henry Kirby (1805– ) and Mary Ann Unknown (~1805–<1845) (Mary Ann was actually Mary Ann Taylor).

In the 1841 census Mary (age 10) was in Hampstead St John, Middlesex, England.[1]
