Mr. Bernice Kirby died in a nursing home in Warner Robins, Georgia.
He was born in Alabama and worked in the Cotton mill. He was predeceased by his parents. He was formerly from the Villa Rica area. He was a World War I Veteran having served in the Army.
He was survived by two sisters, Mrs. Dollie Camp of Villa Rica and Annie Mae Maiden of TN; his wife Eunice of Warner Robins, sons Russell of Atlanta, Ronald of Morrow and Billy of Warner Robins. His wife nor children attended the funeral or helped with the arrangements, and would have allowed him to be buried in a pauper's grave.
The funeral was held on Thursday, September 3, 1981 at 1pm from the Chapel of Jones Funeral Home, with Rev. Jesse Howell, officiating. Music was by Thomas and Lemuel Camp, accompanied by Delores Hembree on the organ.
Pallbearers included Thomas Camp, Lemuel Camp, Bobby Kirby, Kevin Camp, Ted Kirby and Doug Kirby.
Jones Funeral Home, Villa Rica in charge of arrangemets. His sister Dollie and her family, were instrumental with the making of the funeral arrangements. Burial was in Powell Chapel United Methodist Church, 1296 Flat Rock Road, Villa Rica, Georgia, in an unmarked grave.
I received obit info from JWFH, and the gravesite was located August 11, 2014.
(1910 Census records state he was 8 years old and his name was spelled Burance, at which time they lived in Palmetto, Campbell county, GA)
As the story goes, a lady that lived near the church had a baby that was stillborn, and she happened to have buried the baby in the location of which was Bernice Kirby's grave. Located near the HELTON family graves of Jerry, Homer and Addie Bea.
