Son of Elisha Kirby and Cleopatra P. Scurlock.

Children: Vica and Thelma Cleo.

Thomas A. Kirby, for almost fourteen years postmaster and storekeeper at Coal City, passed away Christmas Day, Dec. 25th, 1931, at the age of 58 years and eleven months. Born in Appanoose county on January 25, 1873, he has lived his entire life here with the exception of ten years in Kansas City, Mo. United in marriage Nov. 5, 1899, with Maude Station. To this union three daughters were born, one passing away in infancy. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Vica Brown of Coal City, and Mrs. Thelma Moore of Exline; two granddaughters Vivian Brown and Virginia Moore; two brothers, Charles of Dean, and Walter of Centerville; and one sister, Mrs. Emma Watson of Decatur, Ill.; one step-brother, J. L. Young of Centerville. Services were held Saturday, Dec. 26th, at Hilltown church, conducted by Rev. F. A. Wilder of Moulton, and interment at the cemetery near by.
