Joseph Kirk was born in 1830 in Darcy Lever, Bolton, Lancashire, England to James Kirk and Nancy (Bryan) Kirk - he was christened on 27 Mar 1830 in Bolton-le-Moors.[1]
In 1841 Joseph Kirk (age 10) lived at Dove Bank in Bolton with his mother Nancy (50) and four siblings: Moses (15), Sarah (14), Mary (12), and James (6).[2]
In 1851 Joseph Kirk (age 21, Brick Burner) lived at Headoth Lane in Little Lever with his mother Nancy (61, House Keeper), two sisters: Sarah (25) and Mary (23, Spinner), brother James (16, Labourer), and cousin John Kirk (3).[3]
Joseph Kirk of Little Lever, son of James Kirk, married Elizabeth Leake (or Leak) of Little Lever, daughter of John Leake, on 4 Jun 1852 at Bolton-Le-Moors.[4] The marriage was registered in Bolton in the second quarter of the year.[5]
Joseph Kirk, son of James Kirk, married Sarah Collis, daughter of George Collis, in 1860 at Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire.[6] The marriage was registered in Ashton Under Lyne in the last quarter of the year.[7]
In 1861 Joseph Kirk (age 31, Sanitary Tube Maker) lived in Wortley, Yorkshire with his wife Sarah (31) and daughter Alice (8).[8]
In 1871 Joseph Kirk (age 41, Terra Cotta Worker) lived at White Gate in Horwich, Bolton, Lancashire with his wife Sarah (43, Housework) and six children: Alice (18, Weaver), James (9), Maryann (7), Caroline (4), Emily Nancy (2), and Clara Elizabeth (0).[9]
In 1881 Joseph Kirk (age 51, Commission Agent) lived at 149 Higher Darley St in Halliwell, Bolton with his wife Sarah (53) and four children: James (19, Brickmaker), Mary Ann (17, Cotton Operative), E Nancy (12, Cotton Operative), and Clara Elizabeth (10, Scholar).[10]
In 1891 Joseph Kirk (age 61, Insurance Agent) lived at 12 Ralph St in Halliwell with his wife Sarah D (63) and four daughters: Mary A (27, Reeler In A Cotton Mill), Caroline E (24, Weaver Cotton Mill), Emely R (22, Frame Tenter Cotton Mill), and Clara E (26[20], Domestic Servant).[11]
Joseph's wife Sarah Kirk passed away in 1898.
In 1901 Joseph Kirk (age 71, Insurance Agent) lived at 12 Ralph St in Bolton with three of his daughters: Mary Anne (37, Reeler Cotton Mill), Emily Nancy (32, Reeler Cotton Mill), and Clara Elizabeth (30).[12]
Joseph Kirk passed away on 22 Dec 1906, aged 76 years. His death was registered in Bolton in the last quarter of the year.[13]
"KIRK Joseph of 12 Ralph-street Bolton Lancashire insurance-agent died 22 December 1906 Probate Manchester 12 January [1907] to Mary Annie Kirk and Clara Elizabeth Kirk spinsters Effects £145."[14]
