Robert was the youngest child of John and Ellen Kirk.
On the 12th April 1878, Robert Kirk, 33 years, married Janet Fleming, 25 years, at Grahamston, Barrhead. Janet’s sister Catherine Fleming was one of the witnesses.
Robert Kirk’s first two daughters were named after his mother-in-law, Isabella and his mother Ellen. The Kirk’s lived at Grahamston, Barrhead for a decade and had two more daughters, Janet and Mary.
In the late 1880’s the family moved to the Glossop area of Derbyshire, England close to the Peak District and Manchester. The couple’s first son, David, was born at Glossop, Derbyshire on the 21st August 1887 as was another daughter, Elizabeth.
The 1891 Census has Robert and Janet Kirk and family living at Cottage Lane, Charlesworth, Glossop in the County of Derbyshire. Robert Kirk’s occupation is a Calico Machine Printer.
The 1911 Census reveals Robert and Janet Kirk living at 36 Cottage Lane, Dinting, Glossop with 4 of their unmarried children.
Two years later on the 13th June 1913 Robert Kirk died aged 69 years
