Biography

Mathew was born in 1778. He is the son of Alexander Kirk and Mary Edmiston.

Grandfather's Will - Mathew Edmiston

Mathew is named as the grandson in Mathew Edmiston's Will executed in June 28, 1790, proven in January 1796. This would seem to indicate he was the only surviving child born to Alexander and Mary Kirk with his birth year being 1779 according to his census answers. He would be about age 11 in 1790.

Marriage

1820 - Montgomery Co., KY - Mathew and Hannah (both 26-44) with children - 1 Male age 10-15 and Females as follows: 1-Under 10, 1-age 10-15, 2-age 16-25 - engaged in Agriculture.

1830 - Montgomery Co., KY - Mathew and Hannah (both 50-59) with children - 1 Male age 29-29 and Females as follows: 1-aged 15-19, 4 -aged 20-29 - engaged in Agriculture.

1840 - Montgomery Co., KY - just Mathew and Hannah (aged 60-69); no children

1850 - Montgomery Co., KY - farmer - age 71 - living with wife, Hannah Kirk, age 73. This census says he was born in Virginia (abt 1779) and Hannah in Pennsylvania (abt 1777).

1860 - Montgomery Co., KY - farmer - age 81 - living with Malinda Kirk, age 38. Says he was born in Virginia (abt 1779). Living in Mount Sterling Post Office area. Shows Malinda born abt 1822 in Kentucky - probably a daughter.

Death

Mathew Kirk seems to die sometime between the 1860 and 1870 Census for Montgomery Co. KY. He was age 81 on 1860 Census.
