Biography

Samuel was born in 1776. He was the son of Michael Kirkham and Nancy Campbell. He was married to Polly Dooley 1st February 1802 in Barren County, Kentucky.[1]

He had moved with his family to Schuyler County, Illinois prior to when he appears on the first available tax list of 1838. This tax list also names George, Henry, Moses, Ezra, and John Kirkham. His daughter Mary was married in Schuyler County to Joseph Dennis in August of 1834 and the 1838 indicates a parcel of land co-owned by Kirkham & Dennis but which Kirkham is not stated.[2][3]

Samuel purchased no less than 120 acres of land in Schuyler County. The Bureau of Land Management list two such purchases, one being 80 acres dated 10 October 1840 and another dated 3 November 1840 for an additional 40 acres.[4]
