Her date of birth was shown as 7 Mar 1829. This can't be correct, as her brother Matthew was born on 20 Sep 1828 (as shown on his gravestone).
Sarah married William L. Kirkland. She became ill after the birth of her daughter Margaret, and she moved home with her parents so that her mother could help care for her and her newborn daughter. She and Margaret are in her father Caleb's household in 1850. She died by 1852 (her husband remarried in Oct 1852).
The probate file of Caleb Kirkland was very large due to the identification of heirs. Depositions were taken from neighbors as well as family. Henry Parker, identified as a neighbor and friend of the family, gave a deposition 3 Dec 1883 identifying the heirs of Caleb. When he came to Margaret, he identified her as the wife of P.B. McElvin and a granddaughter of Caleb. Further, he said that she was the daughter of Sarah (who was a daughter of Caleb) and William L Kirkland. He said that Sarah preceded her father Caleb in death, and this Margaret was her only surviving heir. Another neighbor, Alpheus Stanton, reported the same origin for Margaret. The marriage record of Sarah & William is in the Henry county record book.
