Biography

This profile is part of the Kirkland Name Study.

He is shown on records as Benjamin Kirkland. Some people give him a middle name of William. I've seen no documentation for a middle name.

Some online trees show him as marrying Espie Carden, but the only marriage record for a Kirkland that married Caroline Carden is William Kirkland, who was born circa 1836, in 1858 in Monroe, Tennessee. Benjamin would have married circa 1821. This is obviously not his marriage record. Other trees indicate he married his cousin.

He and his wife are said to have had ten children. It is possible that his oldest son is his from a first marriage and Espie Kirkland is his second wife. His oldest (known) son Jesse was born in 1823, and Espie was born circa 1810.

He appears on the 1840 census in Monroe, Tennessee: [1] FWM: 2 <5, 1 5-9, 1 10-14, 1 30-39. FWF: 1 <5, 1 5-9, 1 30-39.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Benjamin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Benjamin:
