Biography

This profile is part of the Kirkland Name Study.

Elizabeth was born 09 Jun 1808[1][2] in South Carolina.[3]

Her parents are known from a written memory of Melissa Honoria (Kirkland) Davis. Melissa was a daughter of William Turkett Kirkland (and thus a granddaughter of Aaron and Catherine) and Elizabeth's niece.

Her date of birth is shown in a newspaper article published in the Columbia Enterprise on 17 Jan 1884. Her death date is shown on her gravestone. Her children are known from a 4 Jul 1929 article in the Abbeville Herald: " . . .Caleb Kirkland lived at Old Pleasant Plains Church and surrounding vicinity. The last Homecoming Day given at uncle Levi Kirklands', his wife's home, Elizabeth Kirkland just prior to her death. She had 136 children and descendants. As she lived to the age 82 leaving the family of children as follows: Mathew, Isaac, Wilson, Ransom, Sidney, and Levi, and girls are Catherine, Mary, Margaret, and Rachel. All of whom have passed except Aunt Rachel Knowles."

She married Caleb Kirkland.[1][2]

Elizabeth died 30 May 1890 and is buried in Old Pleasant Plains Cemetery, Headland, Henry County, Alabama.[1]
