Cynthia, the daughter of William Kirkland d. 1864, married Hugh Bright, date and place unknown. The date had to precede her 1834 marriage to Wade Armstrong in Early County, Georgia. She was Cynthia Bright when that marriage occurred. She had a daughter by Armstrong, Elizabeth, born 10 August 1835. Hugh Bright divorced her in December 1836 and she remarried to Wade Armstrong in Henry County, Alabama 01 March 1837. Her son, Aris Armstrong, was born on the day of this marriage.

The couple had two more children: Delia - born 26 November 1838 and Armstead - born 08 January 1841. Wade Armstrong died before 12 September 1842, when his estate was in probate in Henry County, Alabama.

Cynthia remarried to William H. Ward in Henry County 11 October 1844. William Ward served as administrator of the estate of William Kirkland d. 1864. A letter written by Membrance Helton to the wife of William, indicated Ward was with his father-in-law when the latter temporarily moved from Alabama. William H. Ward died in Henry County on 13 February 1869.

The U. S. Census for Henry County in 1850 indicates William H. Ward had three children from an earlier marriage: Elizabeth - born ca. 1835, Caroline - born ca. 1837 and Sarah - born ca. 1840. Six children were listed on census records as issue of his marriage to Cynthia. The children of the marriage of Cynthia and Wade Armstrong were listed in a household adjoining that of William H. Ward and Cynthia in 1850.

This research found no record of any issue from this marriage of Cynthia Kirkland to Hugh Bright.

• Elizabeth - born 10 August 1835, died 29 March 1884, buried at Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Cemetery, married 1) Edward Whiddon 11 October 1851, (he died in the Civil War), 2) Harrel Arnold 02 May 1864; 3) William Brown 4 Nov 1874. She was buried as Elizabeth Arnold.
• Aris - born 01 March 1837, died 17 April 1923 in Dale County, married Delia Ann Arnold 16 June 1859, a daughter of Harrel Arnold, who was his brother-in-law
• Delia - born 26 November 1838, died 02 November 1906, married James M. Hutto 02 July 1856
• Armstead - born 08 January 1841, died 13 June 1928, buried Pleasant Grove Cemetery, married Josephine Johnson 14 January 1867 (One source reports the death date of Armstead Armstrong as 13 January 1913.)
