Biography

This profile is part of the Kirkland Name Study.

Her date of birth isn't known for certain. Jim Peacock, in his book "Kirkland Family Roots", has a date of birth for her of 12 June 1864. The source of that date isn't known. She doesn't appear on the 1860 census, so likely was born that year or the next. She is recorded as age 21 on the 1880 census; age 54 on the 1920 census; age 64 on the 1930 census.

Harriet was first married to John Reis/Reese circa 1879. [1][2]

They had one son: Lee Washington Reese (1881-1964).[3]

It is not known if Harriet married Leroy Hartley or just had a daughter, Lillie, by him, as she appears on the 1910 and 1920 US federal census as Harriet Reese. She reports on the 1910 census that she is the mother of two children, both living.[4][5]

She and Leroy had one daughter, Lillie.[6]

Harriet died after 1920. She is shown on the 1920 Census as living with her son Lee at age 64.[7]

Since Leroy appears on the 1880 census as a widow, she would've died prior to 1880, but in the biography you are stating before 1889.
H Hartley and James Hartley are also listed on the death certificate below as the parents of Lillie (Hartley) Hall born 1885. So the information is confusing. I added Lillie as their child and made Harriet's death date uncertain.
