John W. Kirkland was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick about 1832, son of John William Kirkland and Elizabeth Weeks. The family moved from New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island, and then back to New Brunwsick (Chatham)
John married Ellen Easton[1] on Nov 2, 1854 in Chatham, NB.[2] They were married at the same time as Rebecca Kirkland, presumably John's sister.[3] John and Ellen settled in Kingston (now Rexton), Kent, New Brunswick, where they lived for almost 40 years and raised 4 children. John was a cabinet maker, and in later years, a house painter.[4] He was a Free Will Baptist, though his wife and children were Presbyterian. As well, John was a good vocalist and an accomplished ventriloquist.[5]
John died at his home on May 6, 1892 at the age of 60.[6]
Note: Kirkland-320 (William Kirkland) was merged into this profile as there is no evidence that a sibling named William existed. The "W" in John W. Kirkland is likely William.
